The trio Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May, also known as The Belleville Three and widely considered the original pioneers of techno, hinted at a 2017 tour in a recent interview. The three legendary artists, who attended Belleville High School in suburban Detroit, haven’t performed together since 2010 at Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam.
In an interview with We Got This Covered, Saunderson revealed that “what I can say for the future is that we’re working on a tour now, for all three of us as the Belleville Three. We’re gonna try to kick it off next year, and it’s gonna start out with DJing and evolve into a much bigger thing, too.”
The potential news of a tour comes on the heels of Detroit’s heralded Movement festival. In the week leading up to 2016′s iteration, the Detroit City Council honored the Belleville trio, along with Jeff Mills, Eddie Fowlkes and Kelli Hand, with testimonial resolutions and “Spirit of Detroit” awards for their creative contributions to the city.
