30 years for UMEK and 300th release for 1605, aptly celebrated with a Maddix collab “Hypnotizing”.
80%Overall Score
• Angelic vocal midway through
• Dirty Techno, lots of interesting details
• Old and New united
UMEK has been in the scene for a while, although I didn’t think that we were talking about three decades! The Techno head-honcho has just marked thirty years of his career with the 300th release on his label 1605, and there’s a familiar face in this hypnotic anniversary track… aka Maddix!
Previously writing about Maddix’s transformation to Techno, it’s safe to say he’s faring well; it’s amazing to hear the old and new unite in “Hypnotizing”! UMEK needs no introduction, as the Slovenian icon has literally established dance music in his country, starting with illicit raves and soon ending up as an Olympian figure in the underground scene.
Their track is revved up with a wild bassline and barging kicks, lots of reverb, and a chaotic essence that will ravage any dancefloor… I am particularly into the kickdrums, which share Maddix’s Big Room touch and perfectly pair with the wobbling rumble on its tail. The old-school aspect in the fills is greatly appreciated too!
Through the central breakdown, an angelic voice emanates a mysterious mood which I found equally sweet and surprising, especially when the final switch happens into the dirty Techno kicks during the finale. A sudden change in ambiance here hypnotizes (hence the apt title) but also brings a dash of boldness to the classic schematics.
So, my congratulation extends to UMEK for this impressive milestone, and to Maddix for the top-notch work on this Techno weapon. Angelic vocal included.
