Sub Focus is stepping into arena territory. The British drum & bass mainstay has announced the two biggest headline shows of his career, bringing his Circular Sound live production to London’s The O2 and Manchester’s Co-op Live next March.
Circular Sound isn’t a new concept for Sub Focus—it’s the immersive live show he’s been refining and touring for a few years now, built around widescreen visuals he curates himself alongside the production. The show has already sold out London’s Alexandra Palace in a matter of seconds, toured through Los Angeles, Australia, and New Zealand, and made Sub Focus the first drum & bass artist to headline Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, that run coming as part of the WORSHIP collective’s takeover of the venue. Moving into arenas is the next logical step for a show that’s clearly outgrown theaters and outdoor amphitheaters alike.
Born Nick Douwma, Sub Focus has spent over 20 years at the front of the global drum & bass movement, straddling underground credibility and chart success in a way few artists in the genre have managed. Since breaking through in the mid-2000s, he’s racked up multiple UK Top 10 and platinum singles, award-winning albums, and festival headline slots at Glastonbury, Coachella, and Tomorrowland, on top of that Red Rocks first.
His most recent solo album, Contact, hit the UK Top 10 and leaned further into his genre-blending tendencies, pulling in electro, trance, and dancehall influences alongside straight d&b. The record featured collaborations with Grimes, John Summit, Katy B, Fireboy DML, bbyclose, and IRAH, and the album cycle also saw Sub Focus land his first cover feature with DJ Mag.
He’s also a founding member of WORSHIP, the collective he runs alongside Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991, which has become one of the more influential forces in pushing drum & bass toward new audiences worldwide. Two decades in, Sub Focus still operates like an artist with something to prove, constantly tweaking the sound and the visual language of his live shows rather than coasting on the hits.
