John Summit is capping off his CTRL Escape Tour with the biggest headline show of his career. The Chicago-born house DJ and producer has added a stadium date at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, set for Saturday, December 12, marking a new high-water mark for an artist who has spent the last few years steadily climbing toward arena and now stadium status.
The announcement comes fresh off a run that would exhaust just about anyone else in the genre. Summit wrapped an extensive European summer tour, played a hometown-style headline set at Lollapalooza, and closed out a record-breaking residency at [UNVRS] in Ibiza, the club that has become ground zero for superstar DJ residencies on the White Isle.
This summer alone included two weekends at Tomorrowland, where Summit curated an Experts Only stage, the label and event brand he founded that has become a proving ground for the tech-house and house talent he champions, plus an Experts Only takeover at Tofte Manor in the UK. That momentum rolls into fall, with the Experts Only Festival returning to New York City on September 19 and 20 after selling out its debut edition last year.
At the center of all this is CTRL Escape, Summit’s album released back in April. The project moves well beyond the tech-house sound that built his name, pulling in dubstep, drum & bass, and other strands of electronic music into a body of work that doubles as a snapshot of where he is at right now, stadium gigs one night, intimate club sets the next, still trying to stay connected to the fans who were there before the arenas.
Critics have taken notice of the trajectory. The New York Times called Summit one of the scene’s biggest forces in recent years, citing his big-tent approach to house music that bridges genre purists and casual weekend festivalgoers. Billboard put it more bluntly, noting he has pulled off one of dance music’s rarest feats: becoming a hard-ticket draw with a signature sound and genuine crossover appeal.
