Apple Unveils First Foldable iPhone Alongside iPhone 18 Pro

Apple has officially unveiled its first foldable iPhone, marking one of the most significant shifts in the company’s smartphone design language since the original device launched nearly two decades ago. The new iPhone Duo was revealed alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max during Apple’s highly anticipated September event, signaling a bold new direction for the tech giant.

The iPhone Duo features a versatile design that transitions from a compact 5.4-inch outer display into a expansive 7.6-inch inner screen. When fully opened, the device is touted as the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever produced, offering users enhanced multitasking capabilities, such as running two applications side-by-side. The device is powered by the cutting-edge A20 Pro chip and housed in a durable Grade 5 titanium enclosure, complete with a newly engineered hinge designed to compete in the premium foldable market.

iPhone 18 Pro and Advanced Camera Upgrades

While the Duo represents a new frontier, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max continue to refine the traditional smartphone experience. Both models utilize the A20 Pro chip and feature a refined, smaller Dynamic Island. A notable addition is the next-generation vapor chamber, which significantly improves sustained performance during high-demand tasks.

The most dramatic improvement, however, is found in the camera system. The new 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera introduces variable aperture, providing photographers with granular control over light intake and depth of field. This shift moves the device closer to the capabilities of professional-grade cameras, making it an essential tool for content creators. Furthermore, the iPhone 18 Pro Max boasts the largest generational battery improvement in history, offering up to 45 hours of video playback.

A New Era of Apple Intelligence

Artificial intelligence remains a cornerstone of Apple’s strategy. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup ships with iOS 27, featuring an upgraded Siri and deep integration with Apple Intelligence. While many AI processes are handled locally on the device for privacy, more complex requests are managed through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system.

This launch marks a pivotal moment for the company, serving as the first major product event under the leadership of new CEO John Ternus. As Apple enters the foldable category with the $1,999 iPhone Duo, the market will be watching closely to see if this premium experiment resonates with consumers. Preorders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max begin September 12, with a release on September 18, while the iPhone Duo is scheduled to arrive on October 23.
