Less than two months into 2020, Mat Zo is making a compelling case as one of the hardest working producers in dance music. The MAD ZOO founder started the year by dropping a drum ‘n’ bass compilation, switched gears with his trance return to Anjunabeats, and is completing the trifecta with a bass house remix of Moon Boots’s “Tied Up.”
Zo’s interpretation of “Tied Up” adds a unique style of distorted funk to the bassline while keeping the soulful groove of the original track largely intact. The producer’s influence on the track is best heard as Zo manipulates Steven Klavier’s jazzy scats to compliment the garage breakbeat he infuses.
In an interview with Dancing Astronaut, Moon Boots touched on the influence he draws from early 80s disco/r&b records, a sound prominently heard of “Tied Up.” Legendary New York producer Kenny Dope leans into the song’s jazz and funk foundation on his remix of the Brooklynite’s track.
Moon Boots will embark on a three-date run in Australia, sandwiched in between live performances at Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival and Electric Forest. Hear the new take on “Tied Up” below.
