Flume and Tori Y Moi announce release date for joint drum ‘n’ bass project, ‘The Difference’

Every facet of Harley Streten’s Flume project is as chameleonic as it gets. From his collaborators to the visuals to the final finished sound, Flume has become synonymous with artistic experimentalism—perhaps best embodied by his latest stylistic pivot. The Aussie beatsmith’s newest material finds him linked with Toro Y Moi on a new drum ‘n’ bass cut called, “The Difference.” Initially, the tune surfaced in a Flume Essentials Spotify playlist under the artist name “300ZX Z31.″ Though, fans were quick to uncover that isn’t an artist name at all, rather, it is the name of the car Flume is depicted in in last year’s lauded Hi, This is Flume mixtape. Now, much sooner than anyone thought, “The Difference” will gain official release on March 11.

Flume has always managed to keep fans guessing, though, a one-off drum ‘n’ bass outing seems unlikely. Whether the project develops into more joint material with Toro Y Moi, or we find Flume wading out into uncharted drum ‘n’ bass waters under a new moniker, “The Difference” could be the tip of the iceberg. What’s clear as of now though—with allusions to more mixtapes underway and a slew of marquee festival performances including Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Splendour in the Grass, Flume is certainly keeping his foot on the gas in 2020.
