If Flume has proven anything in his already prolific career, it’s that he has an undoubtable Midas touch in the studio and that he’s willing to try anything. Father of future bass? Been there. Experimental cross-medium mixtape? Done that. Now, for his latest, Flume has linked with fellow electronic forward thinker Toro Y Moi for an off-the-cuff try at drum ‘n’ bass on, “The Difference.”
Hot off the heels of announcing a three-night run at Red Rocks this summer with Toro in tow, Flume’s latest officially surfaces after a clip was quietly disguised and slipped into the Flume Essentials Spotify playlist a few weeks ago. Shortly after, Flume also alluded to a drum ‘n’ bass throwaway he had made with Toro Y Moi that may or may not see the light of day. Before long, “The Difference” was announced officially. Somehow saturated in Flume’s fearless production style, and polished by Toro Y Moi’s serene, buzzing vocals, despite the pair being relatively untested in the genre, “The Difference” arrives in full, along with an equally inspired visual feature to boot.
