Ambitious Jetlag follow-up: Mike Williams and Brooks rework Mylo’s historical tune “Drop The Pressure”

Brooks and Mike together again after 7 years
• Solid blend of styles in the drop
• Mylo’s sample could have been used more effectively

I think “Jetlag” by Mike Williams and Brooks, released 7 years ago, was one of the first reviews here to score a 90+. For us, it’s an extremely high and rare rating. I clearly remember experimenting with the cover design back then. Why the high score? I absolutely loved it. Two legends of Future Bounce managed to blend their styles in a way that felt unforgettable.

If you’re not familiar, Mike Williams brings that cheerful, happy vibe to his leads, while Brooks leans more electric and aggressive. It’s a combo that just works.

Fast forward to now, and the duo has teamed up again for “Drop The Pressure”, a rework of Mylo’s 2004 hit.

From a technical standpoint, I liked this release. But I can’t help wondering if the choice of sample was a bit too ambitious. Mylo’s “Drop The Pressure” is a historic track, and that iconic vocoded vocal is a key part of its identity. Here, though, the sample feels like it’s left in the background, not fully realizing the potential of such a powerful tune in a modern context. Instead, the pair leaned on the familiar melody only to carry the track.

Some have called the drop formulaic, but I disagree. With this kind of production, simplicity works. You can clearly hear Brooks’ precise touch in the lead, blending seamlessly with Mike’s signature basslines. It doesn’t have the same upbeat, happy vibe as “Jetlag”… It’s more of an underground club banger. And it slaps. But, as always, that’s just my take.

I’d say “Drop The Pressure” is a great tune: a solid 80/100 for me. But it loses some points when you consider the high stakes of the sample and the legacy of their previous collab. More could have been done to make it truly unforgettable. That said, it’s still a solid release, even if it doesn’t quite live up to the sky-high expectations.
