Techno King, Carl Cox, is bringing some excitement to kick off your Tuesday. We already knew that Carl Cox was returning to Ultra Music Festival 2025 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the festival, and we already knew that he was planning something big. Now we’re getting some info on just what he has in store. After Carl Cox brought his Hybrid-Live show to Ultra a few years back, he’s taking it to the next level of ingenuity with his new ‘Evolution’ show.
Carl Cox announced his new show called ‘Evolution’ making a debut at Ultra’s Resistance Megastructure in March. Rather than a hybrid live set, this will be a fully live set. There will be no pre-recorded tracks being played like a traditional DJ set. He will be using a combination of hardware and software on stage to create and manipulate sounds live as he performs. It will be something like watching a DJ/producer create a track from the first element, and then adding layer after layer of different sounds until you see a full track created.
He says he’s been planning this for a long time and he provided a little preview in his Instagram post. You’ll see a setup that looks like something you might see from Stephan Bodzin or Porter Robinson. Carl Cox frequently talks about how he likes to challenge himself and create the same level of effort that was required back in the days of Vinyl DJing. Needless to say, this takes things to a totally new level and we’re psyched to see it in action!
Carl Cox Invites Lineup
As if that wasn’t enough, we also got the full lineup for Carl Cox Invites day at the Resistance Megastructure. With a focus on live shows, Carl has invited Richie Hawtin, Stephan Bodzin, Joris Voorn, Dubfire, Marc Romboy, to play live shows. He will also play a live b2b with Christopher Coe. Rounding it out is a traditional DJ set from Adam Beyer.
A familiar name at the RESISTANCE MegaStructure, Hawtin will deliver his first live performance at Ultra 2025 with his revolutionary live show ‘DEX EFX X0X.’ Helmed within the immersive fluidity in digital manipulation that Hawtin’s DJ performances have become synonymous with, ‘DEX EFX X0X’ demonstrates equally the early foundations and future of DJing, representing an exciting evolutionary step in Hawtin’s lifelong commitment to the development of the electronic music scene.
The ‘Carl Cox Invites’ takeover will also see techno trailblazer Dubfire present his live visual show, ‘EVOLV,’ bringing his debut solo album to life. Dubfire’s ‘EVOLV’ will transform the 11-track collection of propulsive dancefloor tech into an immersive, sci-fi-inspired experience, vaunting ‘EVOLV’ as the nocturnal soundtrack of the future.
The marathon stage takeover will include innovative live sets from modern techno shapeshifter Stephan Bodzin, melodic techno maestro Joris Voorn, and German DJ-musician-composer Marc Romboy, who will be making his Ultra debut. Cox will open his stage takeover with a special b2b set alongside his Awesome Soundwave label-mate Christopher Coe, setting the tone for an extraordinary showcase of underground music talent.
