Denzel Curry is back and spitting bars with his characteristic fury on Unlocked, a concise eight-cut collaborative project produced in tandem with Kenny Beats. The followup to Curry’s solo LP, ZUU, which arrived as an extended example of the Florida native’s sharp delivery in 2019, Unlocked unfurls across 17 minutes in sum. Yet, the album doesn’t feel anything like an abrupt entry to and subsequent exit from the release ring from the duo.
Accompanied by a 24-minute creative short film that chronicles Curry and Kenny Beats’ fictive attempt to recover their own leaked songs, Unlocked is an imaginative, multimedia output that foregrounds Curry’s lyrical savvy and both entities’ vibrant approach to contemporary production.
