• Three different kick styles in one track
• Euphoric build-up meets violent drops
• Melody and chaos in perfect collision
It’s been some time since I listened to Audiofreq. “Angel Eyez” with Krypton, from 3 years ago, was a total banger! A classic vocal, UK Hardcore vibe, mixed with heavy Hardstyle. Easily top 5 Hardstyle of that year for me.
That’s what I love about this Dutch creator: his kicks are always super violent, adding the real Hard in Hardstyle. And he keeps switching them!
I’m usually more into melodic stuff, so I don’t follow the scene 24/7, but I loved hearing him back on “Reverie”, just released on Basscon. It features a gorgeous vocal by Haley Maze, and brings exactly what you’d expect from Audiofreq: heavy kicks, brutal BPM escalation, and pure fun.
“Reverie” starts slow, giving space to Haley’s voice. Beautiful, sweet, especially when layered with a euphoric build-up, her voice still echoing in the background. Then out of nowhere, anti-climax drop. Hits hard, keeps changing, transitioning into three different kicks. I was already stunned after one minute…
That’s what I love about Audiofreq, he doesn’t hesitate to throw multiple kicks in the same bar, switching style and vibe like it’s nothing. It’s hard to follow if you’re not ready, but if you are, it’s absolute treat.
Final drop was wild. The melodic side of “Reverie” comes through, with another kick switch (still brutal, almost Rawstyle), driving the main melody. Didn’t last long, unfortunately. Left me feeling like it was all just a dream. If I had one request: 30 more seconds, to enjoy more of this final drop… But hitting that kind of balance between chaos and making things work together isn’t easy.
Anyway, Audiofreq is back on my radar, and I would say it didn’t disappoint. What a masterclass.
