Eric Sharp – Like Water

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water.”

The quote from legendary martial artist Bruce Lee has become the mantra of Eric Sharp’s 16-year career, which has seen the house purveyor hold down a coveted residency at LA’s Sound Nightclub, perform at festivals like Coachella, SXSW, and Outside Lands, collaborate with Anna Lunoe, remix acts like Major Lazer's Jillionaire, Grammy-winners Jars Of Clay, and Atlantic Records' Melanie Martinez, and top Hype Machine charts.

Sharp is once again channeling Lee’s message of powerful stillness in his new song “Like Water,” which marks the first single from the seasoned artist’s forthcoming EP. “Like Water” is an ethereal dance cut that features vocalist and meditation teacher Doe Paoro, who delivers an angelic verse that guides the track through its undulating progression.

The new-age aesthetics of “Like Water” meld perfectly with Eric Sharp’s life values. With a commitment to sobriety, health, veganism, Jewish heritage, surrealism, and, of course, his trademark facial hair, Sharp imbues the song with buoyancy, spiritualism, and an acute sense of freedom. “Like Water” wants its listener to let go—both on the dancefloor and in the mind.

Kicking off with spacey synth tones and a groovy bassline floating over a pounding, four-to-the-floor rhythm, “Like Water” immediately showcases Sharp’s penchant for detailed, dynamic dance instrumentals. Subverting the conventional build-up and drop, “Like Water” shows precise restraint with its swelling, spellbinding instrumental that gently releases into a wave of sound—an approach that evokes the song’s main water metaphor by smoothly adapting and morphing through each new section.

“Like Water” fits smoothly into Sharp’s established sound of emotive, melodic, indie-leaning house music, and follows a successful string of releases including “Body On My Body” (Create Music Group), “Monday Blues” (House Music With Love), “Love The Rain” (Kitsune), “Contemporary Arp” (Understated Recordings), and Eric Sharp & Friends EP + Eric Sharp & Friends Remixed (Little Assembly).
