Flume shares melodic head-bopper ‘The Difference’ featuring Toro Y Moi

Local fella Flume has been on a bit of a tear of late having notched up impressive releases featuring London Grammar, Slowthai, SOPHIE, JPEGMafia and that rap EP with Reo Cragun.

The latest, and possibly greatest has landed in the form of “The Difference” – a short and punchy melodic joint with American singer, songwriter Chazwick Bradley Bundick, better known as Toro Y Moi.

While we’re personal fans of Toro, turns out Flume is a bit of a super fan telling Zane Lowe about how the track came about when premiering it on Beats Radio;

“He just came over. Um, we messed around on the synths. We’d never done music before, but, uh, it was the first time working together. And it just went incredibly well, and he’s such a pleasure to work with. Honestly there wasn’t too much to it. We just messed around, and this is what happened. He’s a super creative guy. It’s funny, actually, because I’ve been a fan of him for years. When I started this Flume Project, I actually, one of his tracks called ">“Talamak”, which I think came out in about 2011 or something, but it was kind of one of the blueprint songs for this project. When I heard that I was like, “Okay, I want to do music that has, you know, some of these qualities.” It has been amazing to work with such a figure in music that I’ve always had so much love for.”

It doesn’t look like we’ll see any slow down in releases either with Flume taking a pretty candid approach to his music promising another album penned for this year following his ‘Hi, This Is Flume’ album-esque mixtape last year;

“Yeah, we’ll put out a record this year. I mean, I’m just working away. I’m trying to do, like, a beat a day or two ideas a day. I kind of got the blinders on, head down. And yeah, so hopefully put a record out this year. What I’m trying to do is I’m trying to have fun with music. I think sometimes I take it too seriously. And now I’m just having fun and making whatever comes to mind. And it’s, uh, it’s been really satisfying. And I’m feeling good creatively. So yeah, hopefully, I’ll have plenty more to share this year.”

The music video is also super fun featuring both artists and bits and pieces of video magic applied courtesy of Australian digital designer Jonathan Zawada whose hands have been all over various Flume videos and artwork for the last for years.
