Joined by fellow Englishman NASH, Gareth Emery returns to inspiriting trance production on his first release of 2020, “Yesterday.” In 2019, the Laserface visionary clocked in a year filled with exciting music and tour dates—delivering collaborative LP Kingdom United with Ashley Wallbridge and showcasing an improved Laserface setup to unprecedented venues. Following a departure to focus on slower tracks like “Somebody” featuring Kovic, Emery has amped up the pace again with his latest single, “Yesterday.” Enlisting indie dream-pop singer-songwriter Linney, the collaboration finds Emery at the core of his craft surrounded by melodic structures and angelic female vocals.
Introspective piano lines characteristically serve as the foundation for “Yesterday’s” entrancing arrangement, with Emery’s signature synths building into a euphoric climax as cascading keys augment the tune’s uplifting atmosphere. The Garuda labelmates traverse a 130-bpm symphonic playground between harmonious instrumentals, piano chords, and buzzing energy to deliver a pop-inspired trance anthem.
