States across the country are slowly starting to allow businesses to open up. The Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, Florida was one of those businesses. They hosted the Dirt Monkey show and only let in half of their capacity and encouraged guests to wear masks and social distance. Unfortunately, video footage surfaced showing that guests in attendance didn’t exactly stick to the club’s desired safety protocol. Several days later, three employees tested positive for COVID-19.
Gilt Weekly Health Report
The nightclub took their announcement to Instagram and posted the following. “In our effort to keep our guests and employees safe, we are continuing to test our employees weekly. For our second week of testing, out of our 75+ employees, three tested positive. They were immediately removed from the schedule and instructed to quarantine according to CDC guidelines. We will continue to inform the public of our weekly test results every Monday until further notice. An inherent risk of exposures to COVID 19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID 19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death.”
Gilt plans to remain open, even though they don’t know how their employees contracted the virus. To protect everyone they will continue to encourage those who work and attend their events to follow specific safety protocols. Those protocols included wearing masks and social distancing. These are tough times for everyone, especially small businesses that are struggling to stay alive.
As communities around the country re-open, some say a second wave of the virus is inevitable. Either way, we all know that COVID 19 isn’t going away any time soon. A cure could be months or even years away. With that being said, we can’t stay closed down forever, but we can all do our part to slow the virus down. So, be considerate of each other. Wash your hands. Wear your gloves and practice social distancing when you can. In due time, things will get back to normal. For now, we wait. I guess the old saying, patience is a virtue, still rings true today.
