How MES’s “Gorilla” breaks boundaries: exploring the beautiful message behind this Melodic Dubstep-Rock release

• Dual producer-vocalist role
• Emotional fusion of Rock and Melodic Dubstep
• Loved the freedom message

There’s a new wave of EDM Producers following the vocalist road! And this is great, because it adds a layer of genuineness in the vocals and the synergies are even more evident – the creator can tweak base and vocals based on their desire in a simpler way, “cutting” the intermediary in a sense. It happened with Spirit Link‘s album, and it’s happening today with MES, an Atlanta-Based Dubstep Producer and vocalist that impressed me with “Gorilla”!

MES has a long experience with the world of Melodic Dubstep and his vocal tunes are often very interesting. I took a deep dive in his catalog, enjoying bangers like “Home” with DirtySnatcha or “Play Pretend“. It’s a fresh vision of the genre, lightweight at first, then with Rock vibes added to enrich the structure.

“Gorilla” sends a beautiful message, sung by MES himself – a call to live freely and follow your heart, regardless of what society says you’re “supposed” to do. It has a natural Rock vibe, the breakdown showcases a splendid guitar, and then evolves into that chillstep/dubstep hybrid we’re used to. It’s melodic dubstep with a futuristic work on the lead, loved it! It blended well with the guitar, keeping a Rock attitude, still without exceeding and entering full dubstep mode.

MES’s vocals are another great touch, as they blend well with the base. The final solo was gorgeous, with the energy of the voice that really struck a chord in me. It’s clear that the author cares about this message and put a lot of effort in it. I was expecting a more explosive finale though, maybe that would have pushed it even further.

I see a lot of potential here. Rock and Dubstep are not news in the EDM world of hybrids, but MES is bringing a different perspective. “Gorilla” also adds a beautiful vocal with a strong message, directly sung by the producer, and I couldn’t resist its charm. This is exactly the kind of genuine fusion that keeps electronic music evolving!
