[INTERVIEW] GIGEE Talks Music, Influences, And More

GIGEE is a Parisian based Polish artist who has seen her music on esteemed likes like Katermukke, mobilee and most recently Joris Voorn’s Spectrum. Her “Mind Games” Ep is currently rising the charts as she embarks on a current Indian tour. With so much going on, we sat down with her to find out how her year has been, and how does she define success in her career…

Hey GIGEE! How’s your summer been so far?

GIGEE: Hello there! Thank you for the warm welcome and the thoughtful questions. My summer has been fantastic so far, thank you! Lots of exciting projects and also some nice, quality time off with family and friends… ?

Your highly anticipated Mind Games EP was released on Joris Voorn’s label Spectrum on July 28th. What was your experience working on this record?

GIGEE: Oh, thank you! I’ve been working hard on my music and getting ready for the release on Joris Voorn’s label. It’s been an incredible experience working on this record, as it allowed me to explore new sounds and experiment with different musical elements. Collaborating with the Spectrum team and having the opportunity to release on such a respected label has been a dream come true. Literally so happy!

Based in Paris, how do you think the local underground scene has shaped your taste in music?

GIGEE: Ah, Paris! The city of love and music, but also it’s about the people – my parisian friends. Them & the local underground scene has infused my taste with a je ne sais quoi of eclecticism. The energy and diversity of Parisian nightlife have seeped into my tunes, adding a sprinkle of cabaret charm and a dash of bohemian bliss. You can’t help but be influenced by the artistic buzz of the city – it’s like having a croissant with your morning coffee, it just makes everything better!

What does your studio setup look like?

GIGEE: Ah, the sacred sanctuary of my creative madness – my studio! It’s like a musical menagerie, with each instrument having its own distinct personality. It is a playground of sonic wonders, brimming with an array of hardware synthesizers like the Moog Subsequent 37 and Roland TR-8S, Arturia, few Korgs, creating beats that keep the groove alive. The setup includes various effects processors and plugins from Native Instruments, FabFilter, and Soundtoys, adding that extra touch of magic to my sound. Let me also keep this a little bit as a mystery :)) Then all mapped into the LogicPro software. But … I’ve been dreaming of expanding, on a constant quest for the perfect musical arsenal to keep my creativity flowing. The studio is a dynamic space where innovation and experimentation coexist…

What has been your highlight gig this year so far?

GIGEE: As for the highlight gig of the year, oh boy, it’s like asking a parent to pick their favorite child – nearly impossible! Each show is a unique experience, and they all hold a special place in my heart. From the intimate underground clubs to the massive festival stages, every performance is a chance to connect with my audience and share the magic of music. So, let’s just say that every gig has been a highlight in its own remarkable way but I would like to give a special KUDOS to Ikarus Festival so far… :))

How do you define success? Is it about the numbers or is there more to it?

GIGEE: Success, ah yes, the age-old question. To me, it’s like cooking the perfect soufflé – it requires just the right mix of ingredients. Defining it – for me goes beyond mere numbers. It’s about creating something meaningful, emotive, and timeless that resonates with people on a deeper level. When people come up to me after a show, eyes gleaming like disco balls, and tell me how my music touched their souls or made them dance like nobody’s watching, that’s the real jackpot.

Now Mind Games EP is out, what is next for GIGEE?

GIGEE: I’ll be working on fresh singles and potentially another EP down the road. My focus is on staying true to my artistic vision while constantly challenging myself to grow as a musician and producer. Please forgive me not being able to share everything right now but I promise it will be worth waiting… ?

Last but not least, is there a message that you wish to spread to the world?

GIGEE: As an artist, I feel a responsibility to spread positivity and inspire others through my music. One message I wish to convey to the world is the importance of staying true to oneself. In the age of social media and external expectations, it’s crucial to embrace our unique identities and express ourselves authentically. Music has the power to unite and heal, and I hope that my work can serve as a source of inspiration and solace for those who listen.

Thank you for having me & thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts :))

Thank you too, GIGEE, for the lovely chat.
