[Interview] Rising Bass Artist Steller Talks Headlining Tour, Latest ‘Here and Now’ EP, Mental Health, and More

From her early beginnings in South Florida to tearing up stages worldwide, Steller has quickly become a standout name in electronic and bass music. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Technology and a strong foundation as an audio engineer, Steller’s journey took a pivotal turn after college when she began DJing in Greece, igniting her passion for live performance. Since returning to the U.S., her unique sound—a blend of wonky bass, soulful grooves, and funky beats—has captivated audiences and earned her widespread acclaim. Her collaboration ‘Find It In Your Mind’ with Zingara surpassed a million streams, and she’s dropped boundary-breaking EPs on prestigious labels like Morflo Records, Cyclops Recordings, and Bassrush.

Now, in 2025, with four scorching singles already released and major collaborations under her belt, Steller recently wrapped up the first leg of her debut headlining ‘Here and Now Tour’, which includes a partnership with To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) to promote mental health awareness. She is not only headlining top venues but also gracing major festivals like EDC Las VegasForbidden Kingdom, and Beyond Wonderland. It’s clear that Steller’s energetic bass sound has solidified her position as an artist to watch. A major milestone in her artistic evolution is her latest self-released ‘Here & Now’ EP. This project serves as a direct follow-up to her impactful tour, mirroring its title and ethos: a powerful call to be fully present and connect with each other through music.

EDMTunes had the chance to speak with this Steller after her most recent NY show taking place at Avant Gardner which you can follow along below:

First off, can you share about your musical journey and what inspired you to become an artist?

Steller: I’ve always been involved with music and the arts since I was a child. I started playing guitar and taking voice lessons when I was in 4th grade, and from there it just kept evolving and growing. I went on to study audio engineering in college, and that is when things really started to take shape.

When I first fell in love with electronic music though, I was in high school and going to raves. It was always my dream to be an artist, but I just wasn’t sure how it would look when I was a kid. I’m so happy I discovered EDM when I was a teenager, because it really opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me in terms of creativity and artistry.

I’m also grateful I have parents who are passionate about music. One of the first concerts I ever went to was the Rolling Stones with my dad when I was 7! I feel like their love of classic rock and disco really influenced my style and music taste. I was always super inspired by the ‘rockstars’ of the 60s and 70s.

Congrats on your first ever headlining tour which took you to some of the biggest cities in North America. What was the most memorable moment on tour?

Steller: Just it being my first headline tour was so memorable. I am truly never going to forget this and am extremely grateful for how all the shows went. Getting to meet everyone after my sets was the most fulfilling and best part.

To Write Love On Her Arms was a partner on tour, can you share about this partnership and why this organization is important to you?

Steller: It was an honor to partner with TWLOHA. I wanted this tour to be more than just a bunch of shows,  and they helped bring my vision into reality with everything they stand for, along with the message I was aiming to convey. This was the perfect team-up. I’ve always been a big advocate for mental health awareness, therapy, and breaking the stigma around all that; this is exactly what TWLOHA is doing with their organization.

I know many people go to shows to escape the craziness of life or maybe some difficult situations in their personal lives, so I think it’s super critical to have information and help available at shows. This way, people know that they are not alone in their struggles or whatever they may be going through.

Let’s talk about your latest 4 track EP ‘Here & Now’. What was the creative process like for this project, and what do you hope listeners take away from it?

Steller: This EP went hand in hand with my tour in the sense that I wanted it to be like a ‘meditation’  for the listeners, where they could just drop in and tune out for a little and be present with the music. As far as the creative process goes, the EP was kind of born after I made the title track ‘Here & Now’.  I wanted to write a new epic sounding intro for my tour that kind of catapults you into the sonic journey of the set I was putting together. I basically made the other tracks in the span of like 2 weeks after that. I was honestly stuck in a writer’s block when I initially sat down to write this EP. I was dealing with some things in my personal life that were affecting my creativity and I only wanted to write melodies and more melodic ideas than bass heavy at that time. You can definitely hear that in ‘Down With You’ and ‘Eternal Love’. I would say these songs are a bit different than my usual tunes because of the more melodic elements, but it still has my sound in there for sure. It’s all a part of the journey!

Each track on ‘Here & Now’ has its own emotional weight and sonic identity. Is there one that feels the most personal to you, or one that unlocked something new creatively?

Steller: I think my personal favorite is ‘Eternal Love’ – it’s just so different from anything I’ve made before and I feel like it’s the perfect ender of the Ep and ties the rest of it together. It really evokes a lot of emotion for me and was pretty cathartic to write. The chords and melodies I wrote specifically in the outro really make it feel like a big relieving exhale and completion of the work as a whole.

You’ve described this EP as a reset and a release. Looking back now, how does it feel to have the project out in the world and connecting with your fans?

Steller: It definitely feels like a release! I feel relieved that it is out there for people to listen through and put their own meaning to it. The response and feedback has been amazingly positive so far. I am so happy that everyone is resonating with it.

Being an artist in the industry can be very overwhelming from touring, how do you take care of your mental health?

Steller: When I am not touring I try to stick to some sort of routine during the week which helps me feel grounded, plus I go to therapy every week! I also try to prioritize my sleep and break up long studio days with a walk or workout.

What’s one thing about you that not a lot of people know?

Steller: This is always my fun fact, but I am a twin! I have a twin brother.

What can fans expect from you for the second half of 2025?

Steller: I’m very excited for the rest of the year. There is a lot of new music in store as well as a sort of “phase 2” to the tour. I feel blessed to be able to do my thing and share my music with everyone.

You just played at The Great Hall in New York City as part of a very special lineup curated by Excision. What were some highlights from that set, and how did you tailor your performance for a New York crowd?

Steller: Excision shows are always so fun and high energy; I love playing in New York! I tend to make these sets a bit heavier to tailor to the crowd, but still with my twist to it. I’ve loved playing with Excision because I feel like I get to introduce the crowd to the more funky, experimental bass music they may not be expecting, and I have found that they have been very receptive and open-minded. Highlights from this particular set I’d say was getting to test out some new tunes for the first time!
