It has been some time since the dance music community witnessed a genuine public dispute, but a new controversy has emerged involving two of the industry’s most prominent figures. Early this morning, John Summit took to X to publicly call out Pete Tong, alleging that the veteran broadcaster and DJ attempted to claim credit for a remix that Summit had produced.
The track in question is a remix of Everything But The Girl’s iconic hit, ‘Missing,’ which John Summit has been incorporating into his live sets for some time. According to Summit, the production was a project he had been working on alongside Tong. However, the situation escalated when Summit discovered that the track was allegedly slated for release as a collaboration between Pete Tong and Franky Rizardo, despite Summit’s claims that Tong provided little to no actual production input.
Summit expressed his frustration regarding the turn of events, emphasizing that he had been the primary creative force behind the remix. He further noted that he had reached out to Franky Rizardo, who reportedly had no knowledge of the underlying conflict or the circumstances surrounding the track’s credit.
Here is footage of John Summit performing the track at Space in 2025:
In a show of defiance, Summit revealed that he has since completed an orchestral version of the remix entirely on his own, which he plans to premiere this coming weekend. He made it clear that he is moving forward independently, stating, “I ended up doing the whole orchestral version myself which I’m premiering this weekend, thanks for the zero help.”
As of now, there has been no official response from Pete Tong’s management team. The industry continues to watch closely as this story develops.
