Berlin musician challenges gender norms on upbeat indie anthem
A progressive and innovative songwriter that’s as much about his socio-political message as his innovative songwriting, Berlin-based songwriter Keir is building a fanbase for his unique alt-indie style. The new single “Boys Will Be Girls” showcases this in full display – a uniquely spirited indie feel with a bit of a defiant punk spirit as the artist tackles gender norms.
An artist who’s never afraid to put himself on display for his beliefs and in pursuit of creativity, Keir claims to be driven by the idea of writing his best ever song with every successive release. His last collaboration featured rising songwriter Fenne Lily, a floodgate moment for him into the indie music scene.
“Boys Will Be Girls” is accompanied by a DIY-style indie visual that explores and parses gender boundaries.
“Sometimes, it feels like we are a definite thing. For example, if you’re a boy there are so many ideas attached to that,” Keir shared. “Really though, who you are should just be who you are surely? It’s fun to shape-shift I think, it definitely makes you more free, in a way.”
