Constantly a commentator on social and conscious issues, Grammy-winner Kendrick Lamar launched his mysterious new creative service company pgLang with a thought-provoking visual mission statement.
Along with Lamar, frequent-collaborator Dave Free is listed as a co-founder to the multilingual company fueled by a collective of creators. “Our community speaks different languages and breaks formats for the curious,” pgLang declares within a blacked-out mission statement describing its intention to tell inclusive stories through a variety of different cultures, languages, and mediums.
“pgLang is multilingual. Our community speaks music, film, television, art, books, and podcasts — because sometimes, we have to use different languages to get the point of our stories across. Stories that speak to many nations, many races, and many ages. That is why our writers, singers, directors, musicians, and producers break formats when we build ideas and make them real for the curious.”

The debut project for the creative outlet is the visual mission statement—a four-minute short filming starting Baby Keem, Yara Shahidi, Kendrick Lamar, and Jorja Smith. Examining society’s obsession with technology and its ability to alter how communities interact, the introspective short is scored with original work from Florence Welch, Baby Keem, Kamasi Washington, and Lamar himself.
While details about upcoming projects from pgLang are sparse, rapper Nas posted a picture holding a copy of The pgLang Times newspaper alongside Lamar on Instagram. Nas, who released Hip-Hop is Dead in 2006, credited Lamar for making it “better” in 2016. A three-piece apparel collection sold out instantaneously upon pgLang’s launch.
