The final collaborative piece between Hubert Boombass and the late Philippe Zdar, together known as the legendary nu-disco outfit Cassius, is scheduled for release.
The single, out on vinyl February 21 Ed Banger and Defected‘s Glitterbox Records, is a remix of Fiorious’ culturally charged house anthem “I’m Not Defeated.” In their take, Cassius embraces both the grooves and unapologetic moods of yesteryear, layering an expansive drum ensemble atop the duo’s signature upbeat chords. The resulting tune is described by Fiorious himself as “an inspiring eight-minute tour de force and the most bittersweet gift to all of us,” adding “this remix was obviously a labour of love for them, and you can feel that so strongly.”
In addition to honoring two decades of collaboration and artistry under the Cassius umbrella, all profits from the release will be donated to the Rainbow Railroad, a Canadian charity that assists LGBTQ+ members in escaping violence and persecution in their home countries.
The limited pressing release is now available for pre-order.
