• Psy bass, classic Trance, dark Techno buildup
• Dreamy atmosphere but still hits hard
• Kinda eerie, kinda beautiful
Spectral Trance, anyone? This new one from nilsix, aka Ørjan Nilsen + Mark Sixma showed up on Dreamstate and immediately caught my ear. “Ghost in the Machine” has that exact balance of weight and weirdness I didn’t know I wanted today.
It kicks off with a gritty psy-style bass that hums low and mean, setting the mood fast. Then “Ghost in the Machine” starts building (slow, kinda hypnotic) with a voice creeping in, almost whispering the vocal like it’s trying not to wake something up. Honestly a solid setup for what’s coming. I was very curious, but I wasn’t expecting a Techno switch!
Once it shifts into that darker pre-drop section, “Ghost in the Machine” gets tense in a really good way. Heavy Techno drums, a little extra reverb on the kicks, and I was in love! The drop is trancey, but still grounded with those thick, distorted synths, blending two genres in a magical atmosphere.
Also love how they layered the vocal. It’s not constant, not flashy, just tucked into the mix enough to give it this haunted feel. Which, yeah, fits the title.
“Ghost in the Machine” is not the loudest or fastest track out there, but it’s got presence. It feels like it belongs in a late-night warehouse set, given the mood. Definitely one of the more interesting blends of Techno and Trance I’ve heard in a while.
