The next generation of Trance producers is here to stay, and this guy is among its brightest exponents.
We’re all for Trance in here. And we’re glad to see the back-to-the-roots movement so strong, and so full of young talent. One of those producers who are crushing it right now is Matty Ralph, who hails from Northern Ireland, and who has been steadily rising through the ranks with a sound that blends Techno, Trance, Hard House, and Hard Dance.
He’s built his style on a deep love for Classic Trance, Hard Dance, and Rave tunes. And such an example is his latest offering, ‘IDGAF‘, out now on Insomniac’s very own Dreamstate Records. Ralph himself explains the process of coming up with it: “I first received the vocal stem from Australian artist KLP, and I thought,’ Yeah, I could do something very cool with this. To me, it’s trance music with an attitude (…). There are no rules; just vibes. This track was simply about having fun“.
‘IDGAF’
Undoubtedly a high-energy banger, ‘IDGAF’ loves to look to the past with a futuristic approach. Spiky, short percussion sets the mood for the entire track, while the catchy vocal loop induces you into a Trance-like state. And as surgical and powerful as it is so that it can put up a fight in a club or festival, I want to point out how nostalgic it feels.
You’ve got the detuned saw waves from tracks like ‘Kernkraft 400’ jumping gracefully between octaves, you’ve got the short Ibiza-tinted plucks that describe the 90s Trance sound, and you’ve got a slight grit or flavour in the percussive lines that also takes me back to those 90s harder songs. It’s such a great track, once again, it manages to honour the past while maintaining a current-day mixdown.
