Against all odds, the stunning Mayan Warrior Art Car made its way to the City of Chicago to blaze through with a stellar lineup, bringing some of the best Afro, Tech, and Tribal House, as well as Melodic Techno. Last Friday, July 17th, Union Park had just cleared from dangerous levels of rough air quality due to Canadian Wildfires. Then, we were able to enjoy a gorgeous day filled with hypnotizing beats and great people.
The Lineup
The Windy City celebrated the debut of the Mayan Warrior alongside talent including opening local artist Mosey. The Arc at the Lake resident started off steaming hot with melodies worthy of representing Chicago on the Warrior. Then, DJibouti brought out his signature soft-yet-funky grooves. Following him was South African Producer DESIREE. The artist played out a set filled with so much emotion, culture, and attitude that the rain drizzled for a moment, but it stopped after hearing the powerful drums.
As the sun set in the distance, the German electronic duo Âme took over the stage with recurring collaborator DJ Trikk. The trio then amped it up a notch with heavy basslines, underground flavor, and sultry frequencies. Lastly, Swiss electronic duo Adriatique closed out the night with a mix of desert/beachy vibes, which then turned into a beautiful showcase of their Melodic Techno staples, including their remix of Rüfüs Du Sol’s ‘In The Moment’.
The Production
The iconic Mayan Warrior set home in Chicago for a wonderful evening. Mostly clear skies and its signature, massive beaming tower. The LED screens glowed in an abstract and galactic fashion, while the lasers and production continued to wow viewers as the night progressed. If you’re an Arc Music Festival connoisseur, the Art Car took place where the Expansions Stage is normally located during Labor Day Weekend. Moreover, a train of light rings turned the middle of the dance floor into a portal that aimed directly into the Warrior. The glorious grass and dirt provided a comfortable experience for your feet and joints, while you danced the night away. With enough portable bathrooms, bars, and food vendors, the event gave us a complete, tasteful experience filled with joy and music.
Final Thoughts
After a weather scare and potential travel delays couldn’t stop the Mayan Warrior from coming out victorious. The music, the people, it all came together to celebrate the Art Car’s debut, establishing Chicago as one of the USA’s best electronic music Summer destinations.
