Monegros Desert Festival Announces First-Ever Simultaneous Double Closing

Monegros Desert Festival is adding another milestone to its landmark 2026 edition. Just weeks after unveiling its massive 10-stage layout, the iconic Spanish festival has announced that this year’s event will conclude with its first-ever simultaneous double closing, giving attendees the choice between two techno legends as the festival’s 22-hour marathon comes to an end.

On July 25, Héctor Oaks and Richie Hawtin will each headline one of Monegros’ signature stages from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., creating what organizers are calling an unprecedented finale for the festival’s more than 30-year history.

Two Techno Icons, Two Stages, One Historic Finale

For the first time ever, Monegros will split its closing moments between two stages, each representing a different chapter in techno’s evolution. Héctor Oaks will take over OUTWORLD, the festival’s brand-new 360-degree stage making its debut in 2026. Designed to accommodate 20,000 ravers, the immersive production is one of the largest additions the festival has ever introduced.

Meanwhile, Richie Hawtin will close the beloved Techno Cathedral, one of the festival’s longest-running and most recognizable stages. Known for pushing the boundaries of minimal techno and live performance, Hawtin’s set promises to provide a fitting conclusion for longtime Monegros veterans. Rather than gathering every attendee at a single stage, organizers say the simultaneous closings reflect both the scale of this year’s festival and the diversity of its audience.

Old School Meets New School

The pairing highlights two distinct generations of techno. Héctor Oaks has become one of the genre’s defining modern figures, earning a reputation for high-energy vinyl sets that blend hardgroove, rave, and hypnotic techno influences. Across the festival grounds, Richie Hawtin represents one of electronic music’s most influential pioneers. Over a career spanning more than three decades, the Canadian DJ and producer has helped redefine minimal techno through groundbreaking performances and technological innovation.

By scheduling both artists simultaneously, Monegros is allowing attendees to choose between two distinct interpretations of techno’s past, present, and future.

Building On Monegros’ Biggest Edition Yet

The historic finale follows the festival’s recent announcement that 2026 will feature more than 120 artists across 10 stages. Returning concepts include 240 KM/H, ARTCORE, Awakenings, Unreal, and elrow. The lineup remains one of the strongest in the festival’s history, featuring artists such as Amelie Lens, Joseph Capriati, and Indira Paganotto.

Set to take place on July 25 in Fraga, Aragón, Monegros Desert Festival will once again transform the Spanish desert into a temporary city dedicated to electronic music culture. Running continuously for 22 hours, the festival continues to cement its reputation as one of Europe’s most distinctive dance music gatherings.
