• Unexpected dark Electro House collab
• Edgy vocal adds personality
• Hard-hitting kick and gritty bassline
I’m very, very surprised by this one. Robin Schulz, Steve Aoki, and LAWRENT dropping a dark Electro House banger? Sounds like a joke, right? But listen closely, “Bloodtype” actually sounds great.
I’m not really a fan of Aoki for a bunch of reasons, but I have to admit, the guy has personality. He likes to experiment, doesn’t care about playing it safe, and he’s got a long career with plenty of harder releases. His punk attitude shines through in his risk-taking. Schulz, on the other hand, has always been the “chill” guy with relaxing hits like “Prayer in C” or “Waves“. He’s been getting a bit more energetic lately, with tracks like “World Gone Wild“, a nice Future House tribute to Fatboy Slim featuring CYRIL and Sam Martin. Still, I wasn’t expecting him to show up here in “Bloodtype”.
The song is aggressive: The vocals add a rough touch that fits perfectly. The kick hits hard, and the bassline is super gritty: very dirty Electro House, something you’d expect from MORTEN, not from these names.
But when you just listen to it, the track slaps. The rhythm is intense, the melody is a simple loop, but it gets stuck in your head. There’s a bit of that old-school Aoki vibe in there, mostly LAWRENT touch, mixed with a lot of futuristic sound design, especially in the buildup.
All in all, this is a gorgeous release and a real surprise. A proper club banger that will definitely light up the dancefloor.
