We have all been told that social distancing can help stop the spread of Covid-19. It doesn’t look like some of the people in Nice, France got the memo. Over 5,000 of them showed up at an outdoor concert recently to see The Avener perform. The news channel France 3 Provence-Alpes posted footage of the concert. The video showed people dancing, touching, and standing very close to one another. There was no social distancing and most of the attendees were not wearing masks.

The Mayor of Nice Statement
The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, posted a statement regarding the event on Twitter. This is the message in English. “Yesterday’s event at #NICE06 was in accordance with government directives as indicated by the prefecture: counting for compliance with the 5000 gauge, the distance directives recalled via audio and signaling messages and masks highly recommended. We regret that these instructions have not been sufficiently respected and ask the state to review the decree which governs major events in order to impose the wearing of masks, even outside. At #NICE06, it will now be mandatory for all of our events.”
Live events in Nice might not happen for a while after this display. We all want our festivals and live concerts back, but this event is an example of what we can not do right now. We must all do our part in stopping the spread of the virus. For now, that means not having people gather by the thousands. With all that is going on in the world, mandatory masks and social distancing guidelines should have been enforced, for everyone’s safety. People within the industry are thinking of new and safe ways for us to enjoy our favorite artists. If we want to one day get back to normal, we are going to have to make some sacrifices, whether we like it or not.
