What To Know About the Beta
T-Mobile Starlink is the first major low-earth orbit constellation in the world paired with terrestrial cellular spectrum, making the phone in your pocket work in areas of the U.S. that have never, and probably never will, have ground based coverage. Itās a truly groundbreaking engineering breakthrough and means that we are one step closer to helping T-Mobile customers have confidence that, no matter where they are, if they can see the sky, they will be covered by T-Mobile.ā ā Mike Katz, President of Marketing, Strategy and Products, T-Mobile
The beta testing is free to iOS and Android users until July and uses a network of low-Earth orbit satellites to grant people high-speed internet access in dead zones. That national park you couldnāt post your Instagram stories at? Full send now. Spotty service on a summit from coast to coast to reach grandma? Gone. Starlink currently has 300 direct-to-cell satellites that provide coverage for the 500,000 square miles of US land not covered by cell towers. There is a catch, however. Only these select models of phones can access it.

Yes, unfortunately you can only take advantage of the service with a phone from the last four years. And the beta only allows plain text messaging. Voice calls, video/photo sharing, and mobile data will come later. You will also need to update your device to the latest iOS. Lastly, after the beta testing period, you can then decide if you want to continue the service. For T-Mobile customers, rates vary based on your current plan but can cost $15/month; if you sign up for the beta testing before the end of February, you can receive the Early Adopter discount at $10/month. For AT&T and Verizon users, it will cost $20/month. Worth it? Find out how this can help you on T-Mobileās website here.
