The electronic limelight is deservingly trained on TroyBoi, who has stepped out of the shadows to offer yet another enticing cut, “Casper.” The latest cerebral flex to come out of the TroyBoi camp, “Casper” deepens the foundation of one-offs that the producer has laid in recent months, such as “Wavez” and “Mmmm.”
TroyBoi leverages spry percussion and beat work, indulging those with a taste for texture in “Casper’s” measured framework. Despite its trap orientation, “Casper” is balanced; heavy-handed bass lines don’t steal the sonic show, representing a more muted but no less advantageous route. TroyBoi takes it and deftly navigates it, sprucing up the nimble arrangement with a witty lyrical hook, “call me Casper ’cause I’m friendly but won’t hesitate to ghost you.”
