Authorities have identified the victim in a suspected homicide at the 2025 Burning Man festival: 37-year-old Russian national Vadim Kruglov, who resided in Washington state. His body was discovered late on August 30, found “in a pool of blood” near the festival’s iconic “Man” effigy as it burned, according to the Washoe County Medical Examiner, who confirmed his identity via fingerprint analysis
Burning Man Project extended deep condolences and affirmed full cooperation with investigators, including support for the Secret Witness program to encourage tips.
Friends reported Kruglov had gone missing days earlier, with his personal belongings still at camp and no contact since August 29. A GoFundMe campaign, organized by friends, has been launched to repatriate his body to his hometown of Omsk, Siberia, enabling his loved ones to bid their final farewells. The fundraiser has already raised thousands toward its goal.
Kruglov’s father, Igor Dmitrievich Kruglov, issued a heartfelt plea for justice, calling the tragedy a profound loss that should not go unanswered. He emphasized his son’s peaceful nature and lifelong fight for fairness.
Tragedies at Burning Man
Last year, a woman died at the event after being found unresponsive on the grounds. Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures but were “unsuccessful,” Burning Man said in a statement at the time.
The latest incident has amplified scrutiny around festival safety and the challenges of managing emergencies in Black Rock City’s harsh desert environment.
A Community in Shock
As previously reported by EDMtunes, the suspected murder has shaken the festival community, raising questions about safety and accountability at one of the world’s most iconic cultural gatherings.
EDMtunes will continue to monitor the investigation and provide updates as more details emerge.
