‘Wake Me Up’ Becomes RIAA’s Highest Certified Dance Song

Avicii’sWake Me Up‘ released 10 years ago on June 17th bagged the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Diamond Certificate. What’s that you may ask? This banger has sold 10 million certified units. Late Swedish DJ still keeps us dancing successfully 10 years later.

The track has reached platinum status 11 times. Avicii’s beloved song has earned the highest certified dance/electronic tune in the history of RIAA. Who knew this track would reach such heights after it was initially booed at Ultra in 2013 at its debut. Little did we know it would become one of his most listened track with over two billion YouTube views. Below is a new anniversary video of the making of ‘Wake Me Up’, with never-before-seen footage.

Bergling is the first Swedish artist to earn the prestigious award. Other electronic dance music tracks on RIAA certification chart are ‘Lean On‘ by Major Lazer and DJ Snake, ‘Fireflies‘ by Owl City, and ‘Get Lucky‘ by Daft Punk.

The music industry lost the talented Avicii in 2018 by suicide. If you have been keeping up with the news, fans would have heard there is a documentary that is in the works about Avicii’s life. This will feature unreleased footage as well as interviews from family and friends.
