A blast from the past with a modern feel to it, what’s not to like about it all?
Tomorrowland this year was a triumph against adversity and a lesson in relentlessness, following an unexpected stage fire which almost brought the celebrations to a halt. However, the team behind the gathering sorted the obstacles and, against all odds, mounted a Mainstage just in time for the action to take place.
Part of the action was a very special set by Dimitri Vegas, who captivated the crowd at the Mainstage on Weekend 2 with a set played exclusively on vinyl. With the burnt-down original stage and machinery behind the DJ booth, Vegas’ journey was one to remember, doubling down on uniqueness on all fronts, even those he wouldn’t have imagined would have happened.
Now, Dimitri Vegas’ full set is available on YouTube to re-watch endlessly. It features powerful tracks from the 1990s and early 2000s, including genres like Techno, Trance, and Acid House. The performance includes unique edits, new mixes, and collaborations, giving classic songs a fresh feel. Listeners will hear music from influential labels such as Bonzai Records, Southern Fried, and Deconstruction, with new versions of well-known tracks like ‘Adagio For Strings’ and ‘Meet Her At The Love Parade’.
The artist shared his perspective on the performance, saying, “Before the downloads, the rider requests, and the lasers, it was always about records. This set was about going back to that“. As digital music continues to be the standard for many DJs, his choice to use vinyl reminds us of the raw energy involved in playing with analogue records. Expect needle drops, crowd roars, and a journey that pairs an exclusive sonic offering, with unparalleled euphoria from a crowd who once doubted they’d be setting foot in De Schorre Park.
