Not summertime yet, but what a drop! Nik Stone, Lazard & Averro rework Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” with a twist

• Contrast between harsh techno and soft orchestral breaks
• A massive lead melody cuts through gritty basslines
• Lana, reimagined

Cedric Gervais’ remix of Summertime Sadness is iconic. A Progressive House anthem that defined an era. So, when Nik Stone, Lazard & Averro took on the challenge 13 years later, I was intrigued. The 3 producers flipped the script, experimenting with Hard Techno while keeping Lana’s essence intact.

The track opens with a lush, orchestral breakdown. Strings swell, and Lana’s voice floats in, dreamy and slightly sped up. It’s elegant, cinematic, and sets the stage perfectly. Then, the buildup hits, and you feel the shift coming.

The drop is a knockout. A pounding bassline drives the track, pure Hard Techno grit, but then a massive lead melody crashes in. It’s got Big Room energy and it clashes with the darkness in the best way.

What makes this rework special is its balance. The breakdowns are soft and melodic, letting Lana’s vocals shine, while the drops are relentless and raw. It’s a push-and-pull between beauty and brutality that keeps you hooked.

Nik Stone, Lazard & Averro reinvented “Summertime Sadness” in a special and surprising way. The track feels fresh yet familiar, a bold take on a classic that somehow works. Whether you’re into techno or just love a good curveball, this is worth a listen.
