We Tried Soundboks’ New Lightboks Party Light

Soundboks, a company that has been changing the game for portable party speakers, has dipped its toes into a new category: party lights. Soundboks allowed us to try out the brand new Lightboks, and we paired it with the incredible Soundboks 4 speaker to get the full experience.

The Soundboks 4 is an incredible party speaker. It’s loud, punchy, durable, relatively water-resistant, and has awesome battery life. The one thing it lacked that the JBL Partybox speakers have is the integrated light system. While it seems like a bit of a gimmick at first, it can turn a relatively modest chill sesh into a full-blown party.

Now Soundboks is crashing the party with the Lightboks party light, and it’s the perfect way to amplify your vibe. It works with any speaker or sound, using the audio around to sync the light effects, so it’s incredibly simple to use! Just set it up with the Soundboks app and you can customize the light from 3 different settings, (chill, dance, rave) which will differ the speed and intensity of the light show. Surprisingly, the chill mode uses the most batter, because the lights will stay on longer before changing over, whereas the rave mode becomes more like a strobe light.

Then from there you can pick from a bunch of different color palettes, so you’re sure to find something to suit your mood. Lastly, you can control the brightness so you can incorporate it into any type of gathering. You can also use the SKAA wireless system to join it with other Lightboks lights, and you have the ingredients to make your own party anywhere you want.

One thing you’ll want to take note of is that you need to input the serial number into the app if you want the app to remember the device, otherwise you’ll have to connect every time you want to use the Lightboks. Pairing the Lightboks with the Soundboks speaker makes for a truly unbeatable experience. It’s not cheap, costing nearly as much as an entry level JBL Partybox speaker, but the experience is much more intense. Plus, the separate light means that it’s not eating into your speaker battery. It charges via USB-C so it works with your phone charge cable, making things super simple.

We tested it for a nighttime pool party with a Soundboks 4 and we also tested it for an indoor chill session using a TV soundbar, and found the Lightboks to be an awesome addition for either use case. People kept saying how awesome the Lightboks was and asking about it. If you’re a budding DJ or party-producer, you will absolutely want to add the Soundboks and Lightboks combo to your repetoire.
