A strong, courageous message, delivered in the form of a strong, courageous album.
Highly renowned electronic music duo Sigma have released their new album, DAY ONE, marking their first completely independent release. The project is a statement of artistic autonomy, with the duo aiming to rebuild their legacy and reaffirm their dedication to the core sounds of Drum and Bass.
A decade ago, Sigma were brought into the major label environment, which led to their significant success and defined them as powerful producers in the industry. However, this high-speed journey under the constant scrutiny of the public eye left the pair’s original creative vision for the Sigma project somewhat blurred.
The time has now come for a “day-one reset“. The new album is, therefore, more of a new chapter in the history of Sigma than a simple change of direction. Armed with the same passion that fuelled the early days of their career, the now-independent duo re-entered the studio without the usual constraints. Their focus was purely on their love for DnB and a commitment to truly enjoying the production process.
What DAY ONE Brings To The Table
“Sometimes you’ve got to take it back to your roots and reconnect with why you started in the first place. That’s exactly what this project has been for us. We are in full control of the sound, the energy, the vision. This is DAY ONE.”
-Sigma
Taking things back to basics has been a crucial objective at every level for the duo, which includes the talent they have chosen to work with. They have enlisted both well-known and underground talent, including artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Stefflon Don, Jamakabi, and Scrufizzer.
Writer’s Picks
‘Only You‘ is all I wanted from this album. And it hit me towards the very end, which made it a very welcome and warm full-circle moment. The entire album is populated by bangers, and this track really makes me feel a certain way. It’s probably got to do with the chords, the open saws, the emotion in the progression, something along those lines. But it makes me feel like home, and for an album that’s a spiritual homecoming for the band, I strongly connected with that emotion here. No other track in the album made me feel what this one did.

DAY ONE is about starting fresh, but it’s also about paying homage to everything that made Sigma what it is today. We’ve been through it all—the highs, the lows, the grind—and now we’re back doing what we love most, making music for the scene that gave us everything. No compromises, no distractions, just pure drum’n’bass energy. It feels like coming home.

Final Words
Truly a lovely album this is. I’ve got to take my hat off and bow for the bravery of the duo to go fully independent after a decade of “success”. We usually see these artists grow and grow, but we never stop to ask if they’re truly glowing and happy with the decisions they’re taking to keep their fame at high levels. And so examples like Sigma’s are very valuable: a duo who decided to step away from the paved road, because the wilderness of the alternative paths made them the happiest.
