The company has officially introduced the Soundboks Rider, its smallest and lightest speaker to date, designed specifically for those who need high-fidelity sound on the move rather than just for large-scale warehouse events. While previous iterations like the Mix offered a smaller footprint than the flagship Soundboks 4, they still required specialized carrying solutions. The Rider, however, is engineered for true grab-and-go convenience.
This launch marks a strategic pivot for the Danish audio brand. By entering the compact portable speaker category, SOUNDBOKS is now competing directly with established giants like Bose, JBL, Marshall, and Sony. Despite the smaller size, the company remains committed to the rugged durability and raw power that have made them a staple in the outdoor audio scene over the last decade.
Performance Meets Portability
The core value proposition of the Rider is simple: it bridges the gap between ultra-portable Bluetooth speakers that lack depth and heavy-duty party speakers that are cumbersome to transport. The device packs an impressive 118dB of output into a 6.5-kilogram (14.3-pound) frame. This weight-to-power ratio makes it an ideal companion for beach days, tailgates, or road trips, eliminating the need for multiple people to manage the gear.

The Rider is built to last through long sessions, offering up to 35 hours of battery life at moderate volume levels. Even when pushed to its maximum output, it maintains a respectable 8 hours of playback. Notably, the speaker utilizes the same swappable, fast-charging USB-C battery found across the existing SOUNDBOKS ecosystem, allowing users to easily share power sources between devices.
Durability remains a priority, with the unit featuring an IP66 rating, ensuring it can withstand splashes, spills, and dust. The construction includes a robust steel grille and the brand’s signature shock-resistant ball corners, providing essential protection against the rigors of outdoor use.
Controls and Connectivity
The user experience is kept intuitive, featuring a straightforward volume knob and an auxiliary input directly on the control panel. For more granular control, users can access the SOUNDBOKS app to adjust EQ settings, select sound profiles—including Bass, Indoor, and Outdoor modes—and engage security features like speaker locking. Designed for mobility, the Rider includes a built-in carry handle and is compatible with the SOUNDBOKS Strap accessory. While it lacks the specialized wireless protocol found in the larger models, it remains a highly capable tool for those who prioritize simplicity and sound quality.
