While much of the modern festival circuit continues to chase higher BPMs and hyper-pop sensibilities, TroyBoi and Fabian Mazur are moving in the opposite direction. The two producers have officially joined forces on ‘Shoulder Lean,’ a new single out now via Ultra Records that prioritizes slow, heavy, system-testing trap over the genre’s faster, more frantic trends.
The track is defined by a gritty, hard-hitting drop, dark atmospheric textures, and a sub-bass low-end specifically engineered to rattle a room. By leaning into the half-time swing that originally put festival trap on the map, the duo avoids the clutter of excessive production flourishes, opting instead for a stripped-back, high-impact sound.
‘Shoulder Lean’ arrives as a departure from the vocal-heavy format of TroyBoi’s recent FT EP, which featured collaborations with artists like Daya, Morray, and Rockie Fresh. This new release shifts the focus back to the fundamentals of the genre: space, low-end weight, and infectious bounce. TroyBoi’s signature syncopated rhythm work pairs seamlessly with Mazur’s surgical sound design, resulting in a track that functions equally well as a mainstage weapon and a late-night driving anthem.
The track had already begun to generate significant buzz prior to its official release, notably receiving a high-profile nod from Zedd, who incorporated an early version of the song into his set at Zedd In The Park.
TroyBoi, born Troy Henry, has long been a pillar of the trap community, rising from a modest London kitchen studio to become a global force. With a catalog that includes the 2017 debut album Left Is Right and the V!BEZ EP series, his influence extends beyond the dance floor, having seen his music featured in high-profile events like Rihanna’s 2019 Savage X Fenty show.
‘Shoulder Lean’ is available now on all major streaming platforms.
