Caribou‘s return to the scene has absolutely been worth the wait. After a six-year hiatus, Dan Snaith stepped back into the project with his fifth studio album, Suddenly, that received critical acclaim for its wide array of eclectic yet connected songs, including standout singles “You and I” and “Home.” While his world tour around the album has been understandably postponed, Caribou supplies fans with a 2020 installment of his Rough Trade Mixtape series to soundtrack their quarantine activities.
Following his Essential Mix at the end of last month, Caribou offers a slightly different listening experience that can be classified as an “indie-electronic kitchen sink.” Similar to his album, the Canadian producer seamlessly blends a myriad of songs ranging from a Danish-meets-worldly cut to disco to jazz-splashed house to ambient. He even throws in a number of Daphni edits from his other moniker. If listeners are looking for an off-the-beaten-path type of electronic mix, this Rough Trade Mixtape should be next in the queue.
