BUKU Music + Art Project is one of the first festivals to look 2 years ahead at 2022.
On December 3, BUKU officially announced the festival’s plans to push the March 2021 BUKU Festival to 2022.
After considering the current COVID-19 environment, the BUKU team decided that there is too much uncertainty. With a recent spike in cases and tight restrictions on large gatherings, BUKU is not ready to start planning for a March BUKU.
Keeping both safety and enjoyment in mind, the festival organizers struggled to picture 25,000 attendees partying together in a normal BUKU atmosphere.
While rumors of a vaccine gave BUKU a sliver of hope, the team decided widespread availability seems unlikely for March. In an effort to remain transparent, they decided to make the call early.
However, the organizers did not want to wait all the way until March of 2022 to host a BUKU event. As a result, they are creating an event for October 22 and 23 of 2021. They are calling this new event BUKU: PLANET B. According to BUKU’s cancellation post, BUKU: PLANET B is “an immersive, one-time-only, alternative take on BUKU. Additionally, the post claimed that they will be going out of the BUKU comfort zone and getting creative.
Currently, there is minimal information about BUKU: PLANET B. However, BUKU urges fans to keep their eyes open for more information in the new year.
For current ticket holders who rolled their tickets over after the 2020 cancellation, they have the opportunity to refund their tickets. In addition, they can use the funds towards October 2021 or March 2022.
BUKU Music + Art Project
Starting in 2012, the BUKU Music + Art Project planted its roots in New Orleans at Mardi Gras World.
The two-day festival runs every year in March. The lineup is a fusion of all music genres from EDM to indie rock. However, BUKU works to provide a platform for New Orleans culture and the underground arts community.
In 2019, the BUKU lineup featured artists such as Excision, Louis the Child, A$AP Rocky, RL Grime, and many more.
While BUKU Music + Art Project may not return in March 2021, the BUKU team is still ready to provide a full BUKU experience in October 2021 and March 2022.
