Pharrell and Chad Hugo will reunite full-time as famed production duo The Neptunes in 2020. Producing hits for industry giants from JAY-Z, Britney Spears, Kelis, Justine Timberlake, Clipse, Backstreet Boys, and more, The Neptunes have gained acclaim as one of history’s most successful producer groups and a dominant force in the 90s and early 2000s. Now, in a new interview with Clash, Hugo reveals The Neptunes are back in session with new music to come with artists like Miley Cyrus, JAY-Z, and more.
“I’m focussing on The Neptunes stuff, getting back on The Neptunes grind. We’re doing a couple of things. There’s a video game soundtrack that’s in the works right now that I can’t speak about. I’m not supposed to, but uh, it’s in the works right now. We just did some work with Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z, Blink 182, Lil Uzi Vert, Brandy, Ray-J, Snoh Alegra, G-Eazy…”
The Neptunes were nominated to the 2020 class of Songwriters Hall of Fame last year. Despite never having officially split, Pharrell and Hugo cut back on The Neptunes’ material to focus on their individual work. The two reunited as N.E.R.D in 2017 with the release of fifth studio album No One Ever Really Dies. Other future collaborators that Hugo mentioned include Rex Orange County, Lil Nas X and Kaytranada.
