Spotify Meets ChatGPT
Something new in the world of music every day. This new feature across web and mobile platforms, including iOS and Android. Spotify already operates on over 2,000 devices, such as cars, TVs, and smart speakers from Amazon, Google, Volvo, Samsung, and Sonos. Free users can access curated playlists like Discover Weekly. Premium subscribers can generate custom playlists using detailed prompts. For example, “Spotify, I need something upbeat for a workout” yields instant results. Sten Garmark, Spotify’s Global Head of Consumer Experience, said:
Spotify’s vision has always been to be everywhere you are. By bringing Spotify into ChatGPT, we’re creating a powerful new way for fans to connect with the artists and creators they love conversationally, whenever inspiration strikes.
Spotify assures users that no music or podcast content will be shared with OpenAI for training. The ChatGPT connection is optional and can be disconnected anytime. Universal Music Group supports the move. A spokesperson said it helps fans connect with artists and supports a monetized ecosystem. As of Q1 2025, Spotify has 678 million monthly active users, combining both Premium and ad-supported listeners. Premium subscribers alone reached 268 million, up 12% year-over-year. This integration blends AI with music streaming, offering a personalized experience while respecting artist rights. It also positions Spotify to compete more effectively with Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music.
