Here are our top picks for the best music we came across this week, in no particular order.
Khetama – Believe in Mysteries (Viktor Drzewiecki Remix)
Genre: Tech House, Melodic Techno
The first entry on this week’s NMF is a take on a track which gained quite a bit of traction during the last leg of 2023. First released in November of last year, Khetama‘s ‘Believe in Mysteries‘ was swift to catch the attention of acts such as Marco Carola, Don Diablo, Ritchie Hawtin, and Fatboy Slim.
Out on June 6th, enter Viktor Drzewiecki, who makes a triumphant enter on remix duties for this track, transforming it into a warm, poolside anthem ready to be delivered to your favourite beach club this Summer season ahead. A laid-back Tech House foundation with a bit of Melodic Techno sprinkled on top, you’ll most likely encounter this one out in the wild very soon.
David Forbes – Air Raid
Genre: Tech Trance
How can you say no to a bit of David Forbes? The UK-based Tech Trance maestro has an impressive career, spanning almost 2 decades, and perhaps an even more impressive sound, determined to set any and every dancefloor ablaze. His latest single, ‘Air Raid‘, is no exception to that statement.
Seeing the light of day today via Dreamstate Records, this piece turns heads with its distorted Techno kick, its acid sounds, and overall unmeasurable amounts of power, yet knows how to elegantly introduce a proper Trance breakdown that unites these fierce drops, like a floating bridge just before coming down to Earth.
Will Atkinson feat. Gurli – Calling For You
Genre: Trance
Ben Hemsley’s Bebé Recordings delivers, once again, just what we needed. A summer singalong with a vintage tint, ready for melancholic and party-devoted crowds alike? You will not believe it. An instant classic, dare I say, coming to you from one of the quintessential Knights of Trance: Will Atkinson. I could go on for entire paragraphs, but the truth is, you must listen to this to feel the emotions. No amount of words compares.
Made complete by the spot-on soft-yet-slightly-bittersweet voice of Gurli, the track is a nod to the White Isle, says its author. “‘Calling For You‘ rediscovers that lost essence of Balearic Trance. Your last night in Ibiza, best holiday of your life, surrounded by your mates on a packed dance floor under the CO2 cannons wishing that moment would last forever“, says Atkinson. And we do feel that, for sure.
Jonas Schmidt – Wasted Days
Genre: Future House, Deep House
One of the fastest rising stars from Denmark, Jonas Schmidt has taken the world by storm. He’s no one-hit-wonder, though, for he’s been a part of the industry for over a decade. At his 27 years of age, he’s already closed a couple monumental deals with names such as Universal, Revealed, Black Hole, and Sony.
His latest single aims to embody the feel-good spirit of the warmer Summer days ahead. ‘Wasted Days‘ gets its unique sound from a high-pitched male vocal resting over offbeat, housy Piano chords, friendly EDX-resembling plucks, and an overall hopeful aura. This one is your go-to Future House track when making memories with friends this season.
henrikz & Gianluca Dimeo – When I’m With You
Genre: Deep House
Danish Deep House prodigy henrikz is back, weaving his magic once again. He’s been on quite a high working with Soave, and he’s come back for yet another gigantic tune. His latest offering, ‘When I’m With You‘, is a melodic and raw House collaboration with German producer Gianluca Dimeo.
This delicate, charming, and hypnotic track is our final feature of this week’s New Music Friday, and, yet again, follows the very welcome theme of summery memories, warm smiles and unforgettable nights by the seashore. The various elements that have a role throughout the single are not too much, nor too little: they’re simply perfect in energy to portray a story.
