Molac Releases Striking New Single ‘Sacred Hoop’ + Nicolas Viana Reimagination

The right EP for toady’s celebrations, if you ask me.

Happy 4th, everyone! Even though we’re away celebrating today, there’s a great Organic and Progressive House EP we’d like to highlight before we depart. You’d be familiar with Ecuatorian talent Molac: The man is on the very forefront of the 120-124 BPM range, groovy percussion, entrancing basslines and hypnotising pads and textures. We even had him over for an in-depth interview not long ago.

Today, he’s releasing ‘Sacred Hoop‘, a tasty, rich and complex tune, on his very own record label, Alquimia Recordings. Molac himself told us the story of how the song came to be: “‘Sacred Hoop’ was one of the first tracks I created before officially launching Alquimia. It stemmed from the desire to craft a sound that felt deep and melodic, yet fresh, forward-thinking, and innovative. In the creative process, I explored Ambient textures and Deep House inspired stabs, always staying true to my signature: strong percussive elements and intricate sonic details“.

“The idea was for the track to take an unexpected turn halfway through, shifting into a more Progressive space, with rich, expressive synths and a hook that would make you want to loop back to the beginning (like a hoop).”

Molac – Sacred Hoop (Side A) EP

The two-tracker consists of a pair of full-throttle pieces: Molac’s original creation, and a signature remix by Argentinian talent Nicolas Viana. “I always felt the melody could be reimagined from different angles, so I invited three of my favorite producers to remix it in their own style“, Molac states, nodding at the fact that one of those remixers was paired with his original single, and a second part of the tracks is on its way.

Due in just two weeks, Side B will include the two remaining works: one by Nathan Katz (who we also interviewed alongside Alan back when they released ‘Magnetic’), and Poli-Poli.

‘Sacred Hoop’

I have no words for this track other than “it’s so good“. Because it truly is an amazing tune. Starting shy and silent, the arrangement starts becoming more and more complex and the bars go by, and at the 2:0X minute mark, the release into the first full drop is so tasty you can’t do much other than dance to it. Using Deep House stabs, elegant background pads, spiky percussion, and even experimenting with modular programs, ‘Sacred Hoop’ is sure to blow you away one way or another.

‘Sacred Hoop (Nicolas Viana Remix)’

In his true style, Viana takes the original melody and flips it in a cuby fashion, using more in-your-face plucky sounds, and a mature sense of tension and release coming from his will to take you on a journey to the moon and back, without disrupting the flow of the original composition. Molac himself tells us, “When Nicolás first heard the track, he immediately connected with the melody and knew exactly how to take it into his sonic world. The result is a lush, melodic progressive track with otherworldly synths that stay true to the original concept“.

Final Words

This is a phenomenal EP. Listening to both sides of a same melody takes us back to releases such as The Blizzard and Paul Arcane’s ‘First Snow’, where each artist took turns to convert the key elements into their own world of sound. We’re delighted to have heard this, and we strongly encourage you to listen to both takes, as well as saving yourselves for Side B, which, spoiler alert, is as good as this side.

“Each of the guest artists has immense talent and a unique style. I sincerely invite you to dive deeper into their work, there’s so much to discover in their music.”
