Severe Weather Forces Early End to Head Trip Day 1

The inaugural Head Trip 2026 festival, held at the iconic Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, faced an unexpected and abrupt conclusion on its opening night. Severe weather conditions, characterized by an impending lightning alert, forced organizers to suspend the event for the remainder of the evening to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The disruption was caused by lingering atmospheric instability associated with Tropical Storm Rachel, which brought heavy rain, high winds, and significant lightning risks to the Coachella Valley. As the storm system intensified, festival organizers issued emergency notifications, instructing thousands of attendees to immediately vacate the grounds and seek shelter in their vehicles, shuttles, or designated camping areas.

Schedule Adjustments and Safety Protocols

Prior to the suspension, festival leadership had been actively monitoring the weather. In a proactive effort to mitigate risks, organizers had adjusted the schedule earlier in the afternoon, moving doors to 4:00 PM and compressing set times in hopes of concluding the music before the storm arrived. Despite these efforts, including shifting the performance of headliner Calvin Harris to an earlier slot, the rapid movement of the storm cells left officials with no choice but to trigger a full site evacuation.

The suspension occurred while high-energy sets from artists such as FISHER and Chris Lake were concluding, resulting in several headlining performances being cut short or cancelled entirely.

Reshuffling for Day 2

In response to the cancellation, organizers have announced significant changes to the Day 2 lineup to accommodate the displaced performances. Calvin Harris has been added as the official closer for the second day, with Swedish House Mafia now scheduled to perform immediately preceding his set.
