Your craving for darker Progressive has been heard, and acted upon.
There’s something beautiful in those tracks that dare blur the limits between very established genres. And, in particular, he who knows how to push a Progressive House track beyond its comfort zone, will end up with a product able to set an entire dancefloor on fire. Such is the case with today’s The Arrival EP, brought to you by Scorch.
France-hailing artist Scorch is amongst the most promising and exciting producers of the underground circuit, intending to marry dark, rave-infused Techno and Progressive House together. His sounds have already gained a fair bit of traction, being supported by the likes of Cristoph, Yulia Niko, Joachim Garraud, AM.I, Jordan Gill, and others. He’s also warmed up the night for one of his biggest influences, Eric Prydz, at Phantom, Paris, and Toulouse.
The The Arrival EP
The latest endeavour from Scorch yields a three-tracker, the The Arrival EP. Made to stun and built as a strategic blend of styles, the release is out now on Infraspike Records, his very own imprint. Scorch describes the piece as “the darkest, most dystopian version of Progressive House“. So if you’re into dancefloor heaters, you’re invited to follow us down this path.
The EP contains three tracks: the title track ‘The Arrival‘, ‘Progressions‘, and ‘Sun Burn‘, with a cumulative duration of over 20 minutes. With more than enough time to portray a journey as a whole, each song is also a journey by itself. ‘The Arrival’, for a start, combines uneasy arpeggios with warm, sustained basslines and punchy percussion, serving as a perfect first entry to the collection. Scorch mentions, “I had pictures in my mind while making this track, as the LAAT/i Republic gunships coming rescuing the Jedi on the Geonosis Arena in Star Wars II“.
Then comes ‘Progressions’, my personal favourite due to its resemblance to some of Prydz’s discography and Progressive-Trance-flirting nature. It also gives me some notes of ‘SATURN’ by deadmau5. The artist assures that this one has been a fan-favourite ID for years. And lastly, we get to ‘Sun Burn’, interestingly described as “Cafe Mambo bad-ending. The drums are smashed, melted with a sub bass that crushes the whole track like what a first-degree burn feels like. You stayed too much on the beach during day time at 50°C , and you wake up at night with a red sun at the horizon and dark thunderclouds“.
You guys know I’m all for the light, moving songs. But hey, a change of pace every now and then also feels refreshing. And this dystopian-styled EP checks the boxes for me in that sense.
