Tomorrowland’s De Schorre Park Reopens as Investigation Into Mainstage Fire Continues

Good news for Tomorrowland lovers. As we know, the Belgium festival had a major fire at its main stage that forced them to find a substitute stage (thanks to the band Metallica) just a few days before weekend 1 began. Thus, the festival opened its doors with a few adjustments to the schedule and stage layout.

In the last few weeks, the APB Provincial Recreation Area De Schorre, We Are One World, and contractors have been busy dismantling the site. Fortunately, the fire damage was limited, and an independent soil remediation expert confirmed that there are no health risks in the burnt site.

Limited Damage

This year, the festival estimated more than 400,000 attendees across two weekends, despite the fire incident going into weekend 1. In effect, most of the park that hosts Tomorrowland each year reopened its doors to continue its tradition.

“Aside from the damage around the main stage, minor damage to the troll couple Una and Jeuris, and a few scorched spots in the Troll Forest, the grounds were spared,”

The direct area surrounding the burned-out main stage will remain closed to the public. In the meantime, experts from the insurance companies and the public prosecutor’s office are completing their assessments. However, this area is expected to reopen later this month.

Restoration work will begin shortly after:

“It is expected that the Deltaweide will be fully accessible to the public again in September. As a precaution, the pond under the One World Bridge is closed to fishermen until after the restoration work.”

As of now, visitors can once again enjoy pedal boats on the recreational pond, the Troll Forest, the Barefoot Path, and the skate park. The new mini golf course and toddler and preschool playground are now officially open as well.
