Aaron Hibell is currently experiencing a meteoric rise in 2026, fresh off the release of his debut album and a highly successful tour. During Tomorrowland 2026, Hibell commanded the legendary Freedom Stage during Weekend 2, delivering a performance that solidified his status as a must-watch artist. Following his set, we sat down with him to discuss his artistic evolution, his unique approach to sound design, and the inspirations behind his latest work.
Reflecting on his journey, Hibell noted the significance of moving from the festival’s Atmosphere stage last year to the larger Freedom Stage. “It was so cool to see it so packed at 3:00 PM,” he shared. “So many people showed up, curious to see the sound I’m bringing to my DJ sets.”
Defining a Unique Sonic Identity
Hibell’s music is characterized by a distinct fusion of trance, techno, and cinematic, score-like textures. When asked to describe his sound, he emphasized his identity as a producer first. “I’m a producer at heart, first and foremost. I love composing. For me, whatever I make doesn’t really depend on the genre; it matters more about the emotion and the feeling behind it.”
This emotional core allows him to traverse various styles, from hard-hitting techno collaborations with artists like Sarah Landry to more downtempo, house-influenced tracks like “Set Me Free” with Alex Wann. For Hibell, the challenge lies in balancing these contrasting energies. “You have to have the peaks and troughs—the troughs make the peaks even higher,” he explained. “It’s about balancing that in a full set and having an arc towards the end.”
Synchronicity and Future Horizons
Discussing his album, Synchronicity, Hibell described it as a project about “letting life flow” and tuning into the world around him, particularly through nature. This philosophy extends to his live performances, which he distinguishes clearly from his DJ sets. “With DJing, the vibe is more like a party. A live show, however, is more like a concert experience. I’m playing different instruments in the moment and coming up with new sections of tracks live.”
Looking ahead, Hibell is focused on continued experimentation. After an intense 24-city North American tour, he plans to return to the studio to explore new textures, including hard, groovy rhythms and indie-inspired vocals. “It’s all about getting in the studio, experimenting, and seeing where you want to go from there,” he said.
