Insomniac is bringing RuPaul back to San Diego for a hometown show at Ingram Plaza on October 17. The drag icon and dance music veteran will headline a lineup that also includes BAMBII B2B LSDXOXO, Chippy Nonstop, Alex Chapman, and SHEI/CLAY.
RuPaul grew up in San Diego before making his name in New York’s nightclub scene, long before ‘Supermodel (You Better Work)’ turned him into a household name. Since then, he’s built out a substantial catalog in dance music, with 18 studio albums to his credit — a body of work that often gets overshadowed by his television career but has quietly kept him plugged into club culture for decades.
He’s no stranger to Insomniac’s stages either, having previously played Day Trip in the Park, Day Trip Long Beach, and a show at Echostage in Washington D.C. This latest booking brings him back to where it all started, and it doubles as a bit of a homecoming moment for the artist.
The October 17 date also marks the first time Insomniac has hosted an event at Ingram Plaza, an open-air lawn space tucked inside Liberty Station in San Diego’s Point Loma neighborhood. It’s a new venue for the promoter, adding another outdoor option to its growing footprint in the region.
